Notes on 1-Step Sparring
-
both the defender and the attacker are being tested
-
attacker starts the attack with a down block in front
stance
-
defender can start in ready stance or fighting stance
-
defender should indicate to attacker if the defense is
for an attack to the face
-
attacker kihaps when ready; defender kihaps when ready
for the attacker
-
normally, the attacker is in left front stance and steps
forward to attack with a right front punch
-
the attacker may be asked to attack with a mirror set
of techniques (right front stance, stepping forward to attack with a left
front punch) in which case the defender has to defend against the mirrored
attack
-
attacker steps forward when defender kihaps and attacks
with a middle punch or a face punch if the defender had indicated a defense
for a face attack
-
defender should execute each technique cleanly, with
conviction and spirit
-
defender should kihap at the end of each techique or
at the end of the set of techniques (LOUDLY!)
-
when finished with the defense, defender returns to fighting
position to indicate readiness for the next technique before returning
to original positions
