Notes

It was a surprisingly easy drive to and from Belvedere for today's show – just a little over 50 min each way, with the only traffic friction crossing through the MacArthur maze and I-80 bay front. The weather was cold and gloomy (par for this time of year!), and it was cold enough inside St. Stephen's that most of the patrons kept on their hats, gloves, and winter coats. I was comfy enough in my winter dress-pants and puffy Timberland vest. First pair out of the sock drawer today was definitely a summer-weight sock: wrong choice!! Shoulda fixed that when I had the chance…

I was very happy to be sitting up front, and close to the performers, and even though my view to the center was blocked by the large woman diagonally in front of me, I had plenty of other viewing angles. The sound was warm and rich from the proximity of the strings and resonance of the church space. Sehr gut!

As an aside, my semi-restricted viewing angle (and lack of attention to detail) means that there might be set 1/2 personnel changes beyond the few that I noted above. It didn't occur to me that they were going to be swapping people in or out, so while I didn't really pay close attention at the start of the show, I'm positive that the three folks noted were set 2 add-ons.

Program Notes or program notes

Note that NCCO posted a promo page for this concert earlier this year when the new season was first announced. There's not much content there, but the page links to two YouTube posts by David Bruce, composer of first set centerpiece, Lully Loops.

Similarly, NCCO posted a brief 59 sec video by Daniel Hope, talking about Max Richter's Vivaldi: Recomposed.

Richard Bammer posted an excellent promo article about this weekend's program in the Vacaville Reporter.

Whoa! This section is incomplete for now, sorry!
