{Tonight I was super lazy and refrained from taking any sort of notes like usual. Consequently, I don't have any firm timing info, nor much to say about the event: sometimes ya just gotta relax and roll with the flow, right?}

Step Afrika!

It's kinda cold and drippy today, so we grab what-if umbrellas after parking on Haste just shy of the corner with Dana. Four blocks of walking and we're at the doors to Zellerbach, where they check us off of the invite list and send us upstairs to wait for the pre-show talk.

Soon Jeremy Geffen arrives to make a welcoming speech to the assembled Friends of Cal Performances, and then to introduce Step Afrika! founder, C. Brian Williams. Williams is an excellent speaker, and after giving us an overview of the company, their dance style, it's history, and the current touring program, he breaks for a bit of Q&A from the audience.

This bit wraps up around 4:45 PM, whereupon we're invited to enter the mezzanine to watch the rehearsal-in-progress. During the next fifty minutes, we see the group work on three or four sections of the program. It's a great taster to tempt us into buying tickets to one of the coming performances, but we don't bite: sometimes ya gotta lay low!

Upon leaving, the skies of cleared quite a bit: good thing we brought those umbrellas! Ting and I agree that we're kinda hungry, so we head over to Mezzo for a soup & half-sandwich dinner before circling back to the car to drive home. Yum!

Sadly, I don't see that anyone reviewed this weekend's performances: yet another sign of the decline and fall of Western Civilization!
