Notes

It's hard motivating to leave bed this morning, but the third or fourth alarm finally moves us to get up and get going. Tea and coffee brewing and then caffeine, yay! Granola bars make a quick breakfast and then it's time to finish packing the car with gear. Doesn't take too long and I'm ready to roll out just after 7 AM. Ting needs a few more minutes, but nothing too long, and soon enough we're dropping off the hill top on empty streets, headed for the freeway. Traffic is super light this morning, so getting to San Rafael is a breeze. We pull into the park just as the rangers are getting themselves set up at the admission station and they wave us through. Tons of parking this early, score!

I walk over to the entrance gate and find that Boone and Cynthia have staked out VIP space at the head, together with a half dozen GA psychos. The fog is burning off slowly and the weather is exactly perfect for hanging out and shooting the breeze with the assembly. The crowd is surprisingly sparse until 10AM or so when the parking area seems to fill up. There's a minor commotion when event staff disassemble the lines in order to set up their double barrel entry lane system, but the task is accomplished quickly without riling people up too much, and soon enough folks are back in their queue spots.

Bag pre-check is another staff task that proceeds without trouble: ya waits your turn, they squeeze your stash, give it a squinty glance, then move on to the next customer. We're all good! Eventually it's door time, and Liz Baqir calls us up to be scanned and tagged for entry. Woo-hoo!

We exit the gate area and race- walk to the stage to claim a stretch of trail just off center, away from the Phil side space claimed by the folks ahead of us. Happy happy happy!
