With the longest heat wave of the year broiling us for yet another day, I decide to escape the afternoon heat (and another potential power shutoff by PG&E) by heading to San Francisco for a hike with my pal Susan Wong!
Traffic and parking angels watch over me and I make the transition from home to BART with nary a hitch. So far so good: ETA 3 PM at Glen Park station, just like I planned. It's 96 F at home, but only 83 at West Oakland BART, and I'm guessing mid 70's once I arrive in SF. It seemed very strange to be leaving the house in long pants and long sleeves, but I could see fog starting to blow across the bay: better to be semi-prepared! I forgot to grab a wind breaker in my rush to get out of the house: hopefully I won't regret that too much!
The weather in SF turned out to be exactly perfect: sunny, but cool and breezy most of the time. From the top of Twin Peaks it seemed as if the fog was gathering strength to roll in and really cool things down, but the high pressure heat dome seems to have beaten back the foggy tendrils while we were circling around Sutro Tower. There's no sign of fog whatsoever as we exit the forest around Laguna Honda and begin to descend back towards Glen Park.
Four hours and 6.7 miles later I'm riding BART back home. It feels very good to be sitting down right now: that walk was a bit longer than I planned on. It probably wasn't the smartest idea to deviate from the original plan, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. And besides, we got to see goats!
Today's photo gallery comes from ol' squinty!
