Tonight was a strange one. Sylvie is an author who has taken up performing, and she sounded up her act with stories of hanging out with Chuck Prophet, Brian Eno, and Leonard Cohen. Not bad company, eh? Her set ran a little longer than my interest, but not much, and the addition of JG for a bunch of tunes mid set made for an interesting diversion. I don't recall seeing anyone play a Griffin before, it hearing one, for that matter. It was very tinkly, and lacked sustain. Good to have something to contrast with the samey samey of the ukulele!
Eydís Evensen's set was about what I imagined it would be: an hour or so of dreamy piano. Lots of sustain and arpeggio, not much in the way of minor key darkness. Tonight was her SF debut and “first headline North American tour”, and she drew about 100 curious listeners, including a solid 20 or so who clustered around the exit to the hall wanting to shake hands out take selfies. I wasn't feeling so socially, so I skedaddled east on Market to the Church muni station. A few minutes waiting here and a few minutes waiting there and now I'm nearly all the way to West Oakland where I'll hop in my car and drive home. Yay! Mission accomplished!
