Notes

Traffic is Saturday hectic on the drive up to the farm. Probably would have been smarter to leave 30 min earlier, but that's 20-20 hindsight kicking in. It's sunny here, but cool air blowing over from the ocean means everyone is bundled up: some folks even in down layers already. Yeah, a 55 degree breeze will do that to ya!

The first set was great fun, and once folks started dancing, extra layers were shed! I was a bit befuddled by seeing Minglewood on the setlist – clearly this wasn't the Grateful Dead tune. Turns out that David's been doing an alternative for ages, based on the same Noah Lewis recording that Bobby Weir and them Dead Boys reconstructed for their first album in 1966. Dream in Blue was a nice treat – I don't remember hearing them cover that tune before.

The cake break was a much appreciated opportunity to eat dinner, socialize, and have a bite or two of dessert: with options of white strawberry or dark chocolate. Hard to go wrong there!

Second set was another solid effort. Lotsa happy dancers tonight! Beat It on Down That Line was an interesting choice for the encore – and another one that I don't recall hearing them play before. Like Minglewood, it was presented in a radically different musical arrangement (?ragtime) than the GD version, but at least the words stayed much the same. Ripple ended the main part of the evening as an audience singalong. Yum!

As we packed up our gear, Bryan Horne and a few pals began an acoustic jam on the deck of the main house: seems like the party's gonna keep on keepin' on! We walked about to visit with a few friends, then spent a few minutes enjoying the fine sunset. I was psyched to get out of Dodge before dark, so we bid a few adieu's, then hit the road back to Oakland.

Many thanks to Ryan and Mackenzie for hosting us today!
