Night two at the dump. Like yesterday, we haul down early: aiming to avoid traffic and get inside without too much stress. How'd that go? A mild hassle with traffic, but that was 100% due to CalTrans doing roadwork at the Shoreline exit today (bad timing!!). And the entry line? Well it was way more organized than yesterday's chaos, but that turned out to be bad for us, since the actual person-by-person ticket scanning seemed to go extra slow. How come Shoreline can't staff more ticket-scanners? Not paying them enough? It's a real frustration as a customer to show up early, and nevertheless spend 30-45 minutes inching forward in line. Note to self: don't buy more Shoreline tickets! Despite my complaining, we get in pretty early – 6-ish – and all is well with the world again.
And how'd things go inside? Well first things first: on account of changing plans, we didn't eat any dinner, so my first thought tonight was to get some food. And the first choice to appeal to me was the taco truck. Turns out that I had to buy more than I wanted (four tacos? Ain't that a bit much?), but I managed to choke them all down. Should have asked for extra guac or mild salsa to add some juiciness: hard to keep meat moist in a food truck, yeah?
Eventually it's showtime, and we head inside. Our seats are in the far right corner of the 100's tonight, but we never visit, opting instead to crash the priority ticket rows in the upper-middle of 102. Surprisingly, our strategy works, and we end up enjoying the show from great seats, just a few rows behind Bill Walton and his extremely tall sons.
Tonight's show is fun, but looking back at the setlist a few weeks later, I can't really think of much new to say. The only note I managed to scribble at the time is that Eyes of the World had a really terrific jam sequence: Chimenti solo > Mayer solo > then C&M duo. Guess that will have to be it.
I know that I was quite happy with the show: it was darned expensive, but somehow I got my money's worth. Will there be more Dead and Company shows on my calendar? Not at the level of current ticket prices, but who knows … maybe things will be different next season.
Big thanks to Ting for the photo gallery!
