[4:50 PM] {doors late again today; Jeremy & Jackie still noodling onstage after soundcheck as we enter the venue}
[4:58 PM] {Phil onstage to plunk a bit; it's windy as all get out today}
[5:09 PM] {band onstage; PA down after a minute}
Another day with a late soundcheck. I think we spent at least 30 min waiting around while the band tried this and that. Unfortunately, I wasn't really paying attention or taking notes, so I can't say what they were working on: my bad! I recall thinking to myself at one point, “cool, sounds like Terrapin is on the menu,” but then that DIDN'T happen. Maybe my ears were crossed?
Clear and sunny today, but very cool from the winds howling across the park; lots of folks are bundled up in winter gear today. The scrims put up on the West and North sides of the stage due a great job of cutting down on the gusts, but apparently it's still pretty cold up there: when we walk in, Jackie is rubbing his hands in front of one of the heaters. My guess is that it's around 60 F … kinda nippy for May!
The show gets off to a hot start with Casey Jones, chugging along into a fine frenzy that gets some of us jumping up and down – nice to get the blood pumping on a cold afternoon!
Somehow Lebo & Jackie found a way to drop teases of Led Zeppelin's Heartbreaker into the jam at the end of Dylan's Gotta Serve Somebody.
Deal was righteously hot: another one to work up the crowd.
Lazy River Road was a surprise pick, and Jason did a great job with the vocals.
Cassidy featured a wealth of inspired jamming, and also saw multiple teases: the Simpson's Theme (from Jackie), Whole Lotta Love (from Jackie and Lebo), and Slipknot! (maybe as a transition element to signal that it was time to return to the Cassidy head?).
Uncle John's Band was the last tune on the printed setlist today; I assume that got cut on account of the gusty weather. Would have been nice, but I won't complain … I had enough fun.
Big thanks to Ting for the photo gallery!
Whoa! This section is incomplete for now, sorry!
