I'm surprised that I could ID so many of the tunes tonight. Of course it really helps a lot when the band stops to talk about what they're playing!
I think this might have been one of the first few performances for the newest iteration of the collective, and while there was nothing wrong with the gig tonight, it sounded to me as if a lot of the playing was tentative – as if the players were still getting used to the new tunes, and listening carefully to one another in order to avoid making missteps. Nothing wrong with that, I guess, though given my druthers, I think I'd prefer to catch a show at the end of the tour when they'll be swinging with wild abandon!
This might be the first edition of the band that's incorporated non-acoustic instruments. I don't recall use of keyboards or electric bass in seasons past. It seemed like a minor thing until I noticed ES playing the guitar licks on his Nord during Ligia: that made for an incongruous listener experience!
Tonight's photo gallery is especially sparse … had to keep things on the down low because the anti-photo ushers seemed to be more active than usual! Of course, I'm more of a paranoid wuss than Ting, so that's another factor contributing to the scarcity of evidence.
Whoa! This section is incomplete for now, sorry!
