Notes
Leave for the venue a little after 3 pm via ride share; traffic once we're in close means we get out at about the same spot as last year, 3-4 blocks short of the stadium.
Easy walk in to the entrance line; no invitations to crash, so we went to the end, a couple hundred people back from the head. Started out standing in the sun with extra radiation from the fieldhouse stones, but about 10 min later the line scrubbed a little and we moved into a half shaded, half breezy location. The waiting continues in semi comfort, yay!
10 minutes later the line begins another compression cycle: what was a loose, stretched out string of 2s and 4s gradually packs down over the next half hour in waves coming through about every 2 or 3 minutes to a scrum some 20 people wide, all trying to squeeze through a dozen odd search gates.
around 5 PM security let's us through, but the result is only a thorough mixing if the scrum as the crowd reorients to face a different set of gates for ticket scans and bracelets. Here we make the best of the chaos and score a fresh waiting spot in the shade about 6 people from the very front of the plebian field entry group. Wahoo!
Soundcheck has been going for awhile, and we hold at least 30 minutes while they work things out on a few more tunes
50 minutes later we're inside, directly in front of Mayer, about 10 feet back from stage. The air is pretty hot, but we're in partial shade, and every now and then we get a whiff of a cooling breeze. You'd think it Ought to be getting nicer and nicer as we roll along towards Showtime, but it's trending towards stuffy at the moment, and the sweat is starting to roll off in small rivulets. Ugh!
6:45 back from a quick trip up to the fieldhouse to participation row and the Bigelow Tea Ramble On Rose giveaway. Tough as nails working my way in and out on the first/last 50 yards, but relatively easy after that. Good to run into friendly people, if not to many familiar faces so far!
Almost 7 pm still kind of hot and muggy, but at least we're in full shade now. Sitting down, there's only the slightest hint of moving air, but it means the alternative for wear and tear in the feet and knees.
Whoa! This section is incomplete for now, sorry!
