Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847): Variations sérieuses, Opus 54 (1841, transcribed for organ by Nathan Laube
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750): Passacaglia in C minor, BWV 582 (ca. 1708)
[4:14 PM lights down, words about the program from NL]
Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986): Suite for Organ, Op. 5 (1932)
As could easily be predicted if you've been reading these reviews for long, I was happiest hearing the Bach Passacaglia, but honestly, the entire program was pretty darn good. Nathan Line plays with a light, athletic touch, which makes it pretty easy to follow the melodic lines. And playing all but one of the works on the program from memory? Bravo! A great start to this season's organ series!
