Until Dweezil and company charged into the start of tonight's show, I'd forgotten how weird a lot of Zappa tunes are. And I bet they seemed even weirder 50 years ago! Anyways, I enjoyed tonight's gig, especially from my lazy spectator's seat in the lower loge: good sound, good sight lines, almost enough arm and leg room to be comfortable. What more could you want? I got off to a slow start taking notes tonight; between that and the fact that the musicians sometimes swapped places or instruments more than once in a tune, I'd say the likelihood of errors and omissions from the list above is close to 100%. Plus, writing in the dark is always an adventure in future readability! Sorry. I was just not prepared to deal!
I'm certain that utility man David Luther joined Ryan at the drums set several times throughout the gig. For example, that's him doing the roto-tom solo during It Can't Happen Here (?could be plus/minus one tune in the set, my notes are hard to make sense of here), not Ryan Brown.
And The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing was performed mostly a capella; maybe just accompanied a little by Ryan?
Sigh. Next time I'll try and do better!
Despite my crappy notes, I can confidently assert that I enjoyed the show, and I was glad that Dweezil included plenty of raging guitar jams. Cosmik Debris was probably my favorite on that count, closely followed by Apostrophe and Watermelon in Easter Hay.
Not sure you'd like the show? I say, give 'em a try. Worst case, you lose your mind and end up following DZ for the rest of your life…
Say, did I mention that Warfield security theatrics are even better than your typical TSA airport show? Hmmn, remind me to write about that some other time!
