• Matt Moran: vibraphone, marimba;
• Chris Speed: clarinet, tenor saxophone;
• Red Wierenga: accordion.

It's usually a little disorienting to walk into the middle of a show, and that captures the essence of tonight's experience with the Claudia Quintet. I kept holding my breath, hoping to figure out what I'd missed. Sadly, no moment of revelation ever came. Sometimes, you just get to be confused.

Turns out that I wasn't the only one. Chatting for a minute or two with Matt after the show, he mentioned being kinda frustrated that some of his vibraphone FX weren't working correctly (or weren't mic'd right?), and that he kept getting funny looks from Drew, who could see him playing, but couldn't hear anything. At least it wasn't too obvious that things were wonky – as far as I could tell, the whole set was kinda off-kilter by design.

I'm glad that we got to hear about half of it, and I look forward to seeing them again on another go-round.
