Tonight started out with a decadent dinner for Ting and I, hosted by my mom at the Hayes Street Grill: nearly two hours for the three of us to nosh leisurely through a good 72 hours worth of calories. Good thing we don't do that sort of thing very often! Of course, given that the dinner was a slightly belated celebration of our 25th Wedding anniversary, I guess I don't have to worry much about that problem…

After having seen her at Yoshi's two years back, I was really looking forward to hearing Catherine Russell again, so it was a thrill to find that we could squeeze into the second row, just right for watching the play of emotion across her face during the performance.

And like the previous show, Catherine Russell regaled us with plenty of stories about the songs, their composers and the musicians who made them noteworthy. It might not be so great to listen to that banter night after night, but as a sometime thing, it's plenty interesting.

Overall, I thought the set was really fun, if a little too brief, clocking in at just under an hour long. I'd been hoping that attending the late show would get us an extra song or two, but it seemed to work against us in this case: it seemed to me as if Catherine might have cut a song or two from the list in order to make more time for the post show meet and greet (or maybe to make it to a late dinner? who knows!). Oh well. Hopefully Randall will bring her back soon to play the big room!
