Notes

It's always fun to discover new bands, and DahkaBrahka fit the bill tonight. Hauling from Kiev, in Ukraine, the group offers an interesting blend of passionate eastern European vocal styles, tribal drumming, and formal classical training applied to both traditional (cello, piano) and folk (accordion, concertina, wooden flutes, cow horn oboe, etc) instruments. I was thoroughly impressed with the way they managed to blend these options together while exploring a number of song styles, from traditional folk tunes to hip hop (on acoustic instruments!) and Bon Iver style soul. Good show!
