[7:25 PM, Phil out to noodle for a couple min on the new bass, off at 7:30 PM]
[back out at 7:54 PM, off again at 7:58 PM]
[8:05 PM lights down, band onstage]
(unverified list – Eric, Craig & Sean were definitely there, not so sure about Danny and Ryan; my recollection is that Mike Pascale was absent)
Another chill night at TXR; good for the soul! There seemed to be more than a few folks in attendance who were unaware of what tonight's Telstar performance was about, but for the most part, the crowd around me was quiet and respectful except for occasional bursts of unmediated enthusiasm and spontaneous shouts of joy. I should mention that the titling above for this set is somewhat deceptive, as Telstar is somewhat of a musical Rorschach test; most of the titles came from the line or two of vocals (in the case of what look like obvious song titles) or one of Phil's instructions to the band (the chord jams) or my reaction to the Rorschach!
As with other Telstar gigs, there was a lot of griping after it ended about how short the show was, and I agree that 75 min is indeed rather short, but at $15, I don't feel a need to complain – I definitely got my money's worth!
We hung out socializing in the Grate Room quite awhile before heading to the bar where Go By Ocean was rocking the crowd. It was fun to have a beer and shake and howdy a bit more, but ultimately Ting and I decided that it had been an exhausting day, so we ducked out well before the scene shut down for the night in order to make the drive home safely instead of half-asleep.
Phil's new Alembic bass (debuted last night, I hear) is pretty neat … very trippy wood with an “Om”-like (ॐ or 3-shaped!) cutout at the tail piece. Still has flashy LEDs in red and blue on the side of the neck, but these weren't all that visible last night. I'll try and dig up a picture to share…
