Jeffery Broussard & the Creole Cowboys

I'd been thinking of seeing a zydeco show for awhile now, so when this gig popped up on the GoldStar discount list on a free night in our schedule, I jumped on it right quick!

The house was about half full for this gig, but with six to ten tables removed from the center of the floor to create a dance area, it looked to be a bit more crowded as the space filled up with couples twirling to that zydeco sound. The dancers were certainly enthusiastic enough, and many seemed to know each other, suggesting that this was a social event for a local dance club.

The band seemed a little less enthusiastic – perhaps they were feeling some travel fatigue? I kept waiting for the energy level to top the boiling point, but instead it seemed to vary between simmering on the ballads and a fast roil on the quick numbers. I was also a little disappointed with the guitar playing – too much rhythm and not enough lead for my taste – but maybe that's just the nature of this band, I dunno.
