Excellent show. Got to listen (via overhead speaker in false ceiling of the lobby and watch (through window glass) to last 30 min of Early show while waiting in the queue for the late show. Really interesting mixture of aural elements. Jeff's trap set was very non-traditional tonight. Maybe just the tom and cymbals from his regular rig? Everything else appeared to be an African drum repurposed into a trap-like arrangement. Seemed like a good choice for the small, lively Henderson Lab – we would have been totally blasted out by a regular trap set.
Jeff's song for his infant son, Bimbus Blues, sounded so much like the classic Doc Pomus blues, Lonely Avenue that I scribbled that as the title before Jeff's back announce straightened me out.
My guess is that the late show was slightly abbreviated as Jeff alluded to a hand injury that was bothering him, and while he stayed out front to make smiles for photos, the other two guys snuck out relatively quickly and didn't come back.
