Tonight's set was rather interesting for a number of reasons.

First of all, it was novel to sit in the terrace behind the stage, looking down on the trio, watching them work. Cool, for a change, but after weighing the pros and cons, I prefer sitting in front, even if it means I'll end up much farther from stage.

Secondly, it was interesting to hear how the trio pulled and stretched each tune like so much musical taffy. Speeding up, slowing down, morphing the melody from major voicings to minor, augmented, diminished and other unusual tone clusters. Playing on the beat or falling behind, only to surge ahead again joyously.
