[7:58 PM lights down, band onstage. Warren: Are you ready? Happy Mule-o-ween]
[9:37 PM lights down; RK present through the end of the show]
Warren sings lead throughout the night, though Robby sings occasional lines, most notably taking the middle section of the End.
Walked in just after seven to grab a spot in the center of the first tier on the rail next to Chuck and Janet. Perfect! Lots of folks in costume tonight, as it should be! Ting and I go low-profile: I'm wearing the Jack of Diamonds shirt that I painted a few years back; Ting is wearing jeans and a black blouse.
The place fills up kinda slowly, but there's a healthy crowd by showtime, and the Mule storm through a first set tonight heavily weighted towards tunes from the new album. Time to Shout, indeed!
The vibe floats higher and more giddy as set two approaches, and once Mule returns, joined by the legendary Robby Krieger, well, BANG! We're back in that late 60's, LA psychedelic blues vibe that the Doors mined so well. The setlist isn't much of a surprise considering that I peeked at last night's LA list for a preview, but I don't care. These are monster hits that I grew up on, played with loving gusto by the mighty Gov't Mule. It's great! I dance like a maniac and pay hard for it over the next few days – this old dude needs to avoid straining his neck, and dancing to oblivion is generally gonna break that admonition right quick!
Oh well, I'm still kickin', and happy that I caught the show. More Mule!
