Tonight's show started off on an entertaining note as Zakir prepped the audience for an evening of Indian classical music, commenting on the traditional form and structure, and then wittily explaining how they were going to ignore all that and just see what developed. Although none of the night's pieces were ID'd by name or time signature, I'm sure that many of the more edumacated listeners in the crowd could have filled me in if I bothered to inquire. Instead, I've identified the pieces according to the main exponent of the theme – which is not to suggest that the others didn't contribute, only that they began in a subsidiary role.
