Wow, I forgot how powerful the music and singing was for this opera. What a treat! Of course, with a subtitle 'Fountain of Tears' it shouldn't have surprised me how overwhelmingly sad the mood was, but somehow I forgot that part in between first hearing the piece and then seeing it today. I highly recommend seeing this one if a revival comes your way. And if you enjoy spanish classical music (such as Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez or Gil Evans' Sketches of Spain), I also recommend tracking down a recording of this work: at present time, there is only one, featuring Dawn Upshaw and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. If you buy it from Amazon, disregard the negative reviews. Any idiot can post a comment there, and it shows!
