Notes

Although I should have expected it, I'm surprised at how much quieter this acoustic set is than the rockin' Wolf Jett set that preceded it. Happily, the crowd is really spreading itself out today, so there aren't too many yappers around to harsh on my vibe! Singing for this set is done at a large-diaphragm mic of unknown make – a nod to the traditions of yore? – but that makes for a constant threat of feedback, and the sound crew isn't always successful at keeping those yowling demons out of the PA mix. Ah well. Sam must want that look.

The performance is excellent, and it's a treat to hear tunes from the Grisman-Garcia repertoire once more. I was kind of surprised to note the lyrical overlap between Walking Boss and Troubles – there's got to be several lines duplicated between them – and my guess is that tune got inserted into the setlist without thinking too hard about the cognitive dissonance introduced by repetition of those floating lyrics.

Cats Under the Stars was a cheery closer to get everyone up and dancing, but it had the side effect of getting me a little too hot! I should have brought a wide-brim hat to block a little more sun from my upper body. Dancing in full sun on a warm day can be a recipe for disaster!

3:30 PM and it's warm enough today that I've exceeded my full-sun dosage, so I'm off to hide out in the shade while things get set up for the last set of the day: time to get un-baked!
