[8:21 PM lights down, announcements, band out]
My favorite part of tonight's show was getting to hear some of Jimi's less-covered tunes, like Villanova Junction and 1983 (A Merman I Should Turn to Be).
I'm not entirely convinced that a theatrical presentation (Stanley Jordan Plays Jimi) was the best way for Stanley to show his appreciation for Jimi, but his long talk about it before the Encore certainly evidenced his sincere motivation.
Both Ting and I commented that the jamming was kind of rough and undeveloped … I'd characterize it as the band having learned the skeleton outlines of the tunes, but then not spent enough time rehearsing in order to really figure out how to express themselves uniquely through the vehicle of the various songs. I'd be interested in attending the show again after they complete another tour or two.
Sadly, the Sweetwater crowd lived up to it's reputation, and by the first break (after Voodoo Child), they were yacking it up like drunk high school kids at a weekend social. Pretty silly!
Big thanks to Ting for the photo gallery!
Whoa! This section is incomplete for now, sorry!
