House concerts are always fun, and this one was superb! Ting and I arrived early and snagged choice seats in the second row, then added our bottle to the cooler bucket and joined the band in the kitchen for a bit of pre-show chit-chat. We'd just come from a big dim sum luncheon, but I couldn't resist the temptation of the deviled eggs. Yummy! Oh, and the salted semi-sweet chocolate chip cookie was another unavoidable treat.
After awhile, Tom interrupted our nice hang with the other guests by ringing a giant hand bell: showtime! Places everyone! And so we scurried back inside to take our seats and listen. Most of the time, artists at a house concert are talkative and friendly – not that some aren't that way all the time – but I think the intimate nature of these events and the natural tendency for most performers to be outgoing in the first place leads to a more conversational tilt than most concerts. The T sisters exemplified this notion, with each of the girls taking time to talk about their tunes, sometimes prompting each other by filling in forgotten tidbits. “Finishing each others sentences” some might say.
I thought they did a great job putting together an interesting setlist: some choice covers, lots of new tunes, a few old tunes, and some covers that were new to me; variety! It's a good thing!
Big thanks to Ting for the photo gallery!
Whoa! This section is incomplete for now, sorry!
