Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827): Symphony No. 1 in C, Op. 21 (1800)
William Gardiner (b.1987): Cello Concerto (2017, World Premiere), featuring Tessa Seymour
[8:28 PM lights down; the orchestra marches back onstage for the second set]
Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975): Jazz Suite No. 1 (1934)
Beethoven's 1st was a nice opener for tonight's concert: the seldom seen cousin of the his popular symphonies. I think the thing I like most about this work is that it's nicely proportioned: a Goldilock's-worthy piece!
Whoa! This section is incomplete for now, sorry!
Jessica Balik posted a review of the following night's show at SFCV
Joshua Kosman shared his reivew of tonight's show at SFGate, and thankfully, confirmed the origin of Tessa's solo encore.
