[~10:30 AM; we've located ourselves at the corner of Throckmorton and Miller, where the wide curve affords us a good view of the parade. Eventually, things get going, and the various troops pass by ever so slowly, tossing candy to the kids (or political flyers to the adults – meh!). Soon enough the truck carrying Moonalice comes into view, and we enjoy about a minute or so of music before they head out of ear-shot down Miller Ave. We watch the parade a bit longer, but eventually grow bored, and so walk over to Sweetwater to hang out and chit-chat with friends until the band shows up again. More or less right at noon, the flatbed truck comes slowly up the street and then parks right in front of Sweetwater; the band has been playing all along the parade route (must have been a pretty long set! I'm gonna guess that they took a few breaks along the way), and soon wraps up American Dream Rag]
[1:08 PM announcements from Roger: “We're gonna play until the generator runs out!”]
Apparently Bob Weir acted as a parade judge … we were off to the side of the judges stand, and it didn't occur to me to go look to see if he was there or not!
The gig in front of Sweetwater was very cool. A sunny afternoon with a refreshing breeze to keep things from getting too hot. Plenty of kind folks in attendance, but not at all crowded. I'm glad we made it out!
Eventually archive media will be posted on the appropriate Moonalice web page: I'd like to see what I missed from set one – in retrospect, maybe I should have second-lined down the parade route behind the truck!
