Notes

No David Freiberg today – due to a recent transient ischemic attack, he's resting at home in Novato.

And Paul, having suffered a heart attack this spring, is looking rather pale and wan. He spends most of the show playing guitar from a bar stool, getting up to rock out now and then, or to go have a smoke towards the back of the stage. I'd like to think he was smoking those funny cigarettes that used to be the rage instead corporate tobacco deathsticks, but I wasn't close enough to spot any visual evidence either way.

During the encore, there are a lot of folks onstage – maybe one of Donny's kids (or grandkids!) playing the tom-tom, another guy (Donny's son?) playing percussion on Donny's left shoulder, David Freiburg's daughters and China Kantner singing harmony vox at stage left, Jeff Pevar walks out playing tambourine, then Jude hands him his guitar; after playing a lick or two, they begin playing as a duo – Jeff strumming and Jude fingering the chords. Nick – a local policeman – was summoned to the stage by Cathy at the start of the encore – his dad Joey played drums with the Jefferson Starship for about a decade before passing away in 1994. And still, I'm probably missing a few folks. Like I said, it was a circus onstage!
