[7:30 PM lights down, announcements from Randall Kline]
Astonishingly light traffic tonight…flow of traffic on the bay bridge probably exceeded 70 mph. Arrived in civic center to find plenty of open parking. Nice to start the year off with such a blessing! Parked near the Rickshaw Stop, then walked over to SFJAZZ and took our seats in the balcony. I'd forgotten that tonight's gig offered an open dance floor; in retrospect, buying tix there probably would have been a better choice than the balcony, but it's to late to swap now, so we'll sit tight.
Our seats proved to be great for listening to and watching the show, if not so much for participating in the frenzied throng that boogied down all night on the dance floor.
The set was solid, but not quite as exiting as other Macro shows I've seen in the past. Hard for me to pin down exactly what I found dissatisfying, but it just didn't float my boat as much as I'd hoped. Better luck next time, I guess!
Gabe O'Keefe posted an interesting interview with Maceo for KQED.
