[8:01 PM lights down; 8:03 PM band out]
MZ suggests the following were in there somewhere:
Bummed to find that the entire stage right first tier was reserved for an Academy of Art outing … just what I need, a crowd of disinterested listeners in the house tonight! Hopefully they'll be good quiet patrons.
Turns out to be a single set show tonight. Kinda surprising for a Thursday, but another thing outside my control, and so not worth bumming out about.
Given the band's precept: the Number One hits and ONLY the number ones, I expected to be able to identify more tunes than I did. In fact, I only knew one of the twelve by ear. Pretty shoddy performance eh? It goes to show how poor my knowledge of pop culture is! Too much time spent genuflecting at the altar of the Grateful Dead, no doubt.
Despite being relatively clueless about what was being performed, I'm glad I went. For one, it was really cool to listen to Bernstein and Skerik weave their parts together. Anyway, to the extent that I was able to block out distractions from the talkers that seemed to surround me tonight (worst Yoshi's crowd in quite a while – maybe they thought it was a bar party instead of a concert?), it was fun. Bobby Previte was interesting to watch because he really seemede to be enjoying himself. Hopefully they'll be back this way again, maybe even with a different set of tunes!
