Another night of top-notch music from Phil and Friends. We arrived a bit later than usual, about 7:45 or so, and despite the fact that the venue is already two-thirds full, we somehow manage to end up in our usual spot front and center. Yay!
I'm reminded tonight how much I like hearing John K's imitation of Garcia tonight – not enough to have signed on for two shows in a row this week, but happy to hear him again after an absence of a couple months. He might not be able to cover the blues or pathos-drenched material as well as I want, but he's darn good with the other 80% of the material. And tonight, with a guest like Stanley in the mix who isn't all that familiar with the core repertoire, having someone who is makes all the difference. I should mention here that Jeff Chimenti's contributions were similarly invaluable at providing a comfortable melodic bed for the tunes, and leading at times, when called on to fulfill that role too.
