Wednesday night and time
for another go-round with Flora and Airto at Yoshi's Jazz House at Jack London
Square in Oakland. For reasons unknown to me, they've jettisoned the 'Fourth
World' moniker, and though the band is little changed, I miss the guitar
of Jose Neto.
And though she can still wail better than anyone standing on this side of
Donna Jean Godchaux, Flora seems to be having a little bit of an off night;
maybe it's the ravages of touring or something, but I think she sounded a
bit ragged.
Sitting in the front row for the first set meant that we had plenty of light;
unfortunately, the old Olympus D360-L isn't up to the task of sorting out
the light from the dark, and subsequently, most of these shots were way too
overexposed.
I sat a bit further back for the second set, but the images still suffer.
This time, things are compounded by my inherent shakiness, something captured
quite well by the longer exposures generated by sitting further from the
light source. Ah well, sometimes you need to be satisfied with a blurry bunch
of photos...
