Well, they did warn us it was going to happen, but when it did,
we were all taken off guard. The UPS's kicked in right away and all
the critical servers remained up for the duration of the blackout.
We remained productive with our time. I was most impressed with Antonio.
He has the whole setup with a battery-powered amp! I suppose if you
are good enough to share the stage with Metallica, you would probably be
that prepared. Downstairs, the engineers found that you can in fact
play foosball in the dark!
The blackout lasted about an hour and a half. A lot of people
took an early lunch. The UPS display was messed up, but I had
a formula that I used to figure out how much time we have left, so I was
not worried. I stuck the picture of George in there because I thought
it was great that I finally got to meet George in person. George
works for ATS and he is the most service-oriented engineer I have had the
pleasure of dealing with. When I first "met" George a year and a
half ago, he and Cindy, my account rep at Pacific Bell, bailed me out of
an ISP situation by getting me a T1 in a week and a half! Just call
him Super-George!
