Sakyamuni's Filial Piety (No.17, A.D.1174-1252)
The niche, 730 cm high, 1560 cm wide and 182 cm deep, houses 68 statues. Carved in the middle is a bust of Sakyamuni, and on its both sides are 12 groups of statues depicting Sakyamuni practising Buddhism and showing his filial piety in previous existence and this life. This niche publicizes Sakyamuni's filial piety and his spirit of self-sacrifice. |
