 Digging Deeper (In the Rain)
 Ginseng Ginger Ale

Well we woke up early for Hankido like usual on Fridays, then drove down and over to the Peninsula after work out. What with traffic and all, it was a little after 10AM by the time I got to Stanford. Even though it was kind of rainy today, the construction workers were hard at it, reinforcing the sides of the big hole in the parking lot.

The day passed uneventfully and I picked up Ting for dinner a little after six pm. We decided on the Long Life Noodle Company & Jook Joint in the Stanford Shopping Center...and so you can see that Ting had a Ginseng Ginger Ale to drink (I think I had a Full Sail Ale), together with a large bowl of Earthly Cultivation -  Soba (buckwheat) noodles with grilled chicken, shiitake mushrooms, quail eggs and julienne of scallions and carrots in a dashi-bonito infused broth. I had the Chicken Chow Fun (wide chewy noodles wok-tossed with green onions, sprouts, and Chinese black bean).

I thought I was hungry, but Ting beat me to the finish (sorry those action photos are so fuzzy...shoulda used a flash!).

We made it over to Memorial Church in plenty of time for tonight's performance by the Sixteen - early enough, in fact, to snag a pair of absolutely primo seats on the aisle in the second row. Choice!

Conducted by Harry Christophers, this British chorus specializes in early music - that predating the classical era - and they presented us with a program entitled The Mystery of the Cross, a program of music for Holy Week by Spanish composer Tomas Luis de Victoria. The program also featured Lamentations for Maundy Thursday, Hymn-Pange Lingua, Tenebrae Responsories for Good Friday, 1-6, Hymn-Vexilla Regis, and Lamentations for Holy Saturday.

It was a fine show, if a little too short, clocking in at about 80 minutes for the entire concert.
